Renthal has been engineering motorcycle parts in Manchester, England, since 1969. That year, trials riders Andrew Renshaw and Henry Rosenthal started making aluminum handlebars that wouldn’t bend in a crash. The name comes from their surnames: “Ren” plus “thal.” Today, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki fit Renthal handlebars as original equipment on their performance off-road bikes. Renthal sprockets also helped Kawasaki’s World Superbike team win championships in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. It’s British engineering for your British triple.
Why riders choose Renthal
- The right steel. Front sprockets are machined from core-refined 655M13 nickel-chrome-molybdenum alloy steel, which balances strength and hardness.renthal
- Case hardened. Heat-treating the surface gives the teeth the longest possible service life.
- CNC machined, not stamped. Every sprocket is machined to tight tolerances in Renthal’s own factory for an accurate, consistent fit.
- Proven on the racetrack. Renthal has been a leader in sprocket fitment since 1984, developing parts alongside championship-winning race teams.renthal

Replace it as a set
A chain and its sprockets wear in together. Putting a new sprocket on a stretched chain, or a new chain on worn sprockets, makes everything wear out faster. Both Motorcyclist and Cycle World recommend replacing them together.
Complete your drivetrain with:
- BikeMaster BMOR Series 530 Drive Chain (PN MBI-530-Chain)
- BikeMaster 530 Rear Sprocket (PN MBI-Sprocket-01)
- Universal Chain Breaker and Rivet Tool for 520/530 chains (PN TBS-35-5169)

When to replace
Check the rear sprocket first. If the teeth look hooked or thin, or you can pull the chain away from the back of the sprocket far enough to see daylight, the drivetrain is worn out.
Bringing a stored bike back to life? Part 3 of our Barn Find Hinckley series explains why we replace any O-ring chain more than two years old. For a step-by-step swap, follow Cycle World’s chain and sprocket guide, and always torque the countershaft nut to factory spec. Riding a Speed Triple? See our Speed Triple parts guide too.
